Avocados are everywhere these days. And for good reason. They are low in sugar and chock-full of vitamins and minerals, like potassium, folate and vitamin B. They’re also high in healthy (monounsaturated) fats, which can help lower bad cholesterol levels in your blood. Plus, avocados are super versatile! Here are three fun and easy ways to eat them:
- Make avocado toast. Top a slice of whole-grain toast with sliced avocado. Then add your favorite toppings – almost anything goes. (We love hot sauce on ours.)
- Swap mayo for mashed avocado. Whether you’re making chicken salad or deviled eggs, avocado makes a delicious and healthier substitute for mayo.
- Toss avocado into your smoothie. The fiber and healthy fats will help you stay full.
TIP: Avocados are ripe when the peel gives slightly to pressure. They will also keep longer when stored in the fridge. Be sure to wash avocados well before cutting to avoid transferring bacteria from your knife.
